Want to strengthen your teeth while enhancing your smile? A dental bridge or crown may be the perfect solution
A crown is a restoration that covers an entire tooth. The crown replaces your tooth’s outer layer to strengthen it or enhance its appearance.
You may need a crown if you have a tooth that is chipped or cracked. A crown is often the restoration of choice to protect a tooth after root canal treatment. Crowns are excellent for strengthening teeth that have been weakened by enamel loss or large cavities.
If you get a dental implant, you will need to restore it with a crown.
You might even get a crown if you want to improve the appearance of a tooth that is smaller or darker than the rest of your teeth.
Bridges are dental restorations that literally bridge the gap where there is a missing tooth. They comprise two dental crowns with a false tooth suspended between them. The two crowns rest on the teeth on either side of the gap and the false tooth in the middle completes your smile.
Replacing a missing tooth with a bridge can help you chew better, and it prevents your other teeth from shifting out of place.
To get a bridge, two of your teeth will have to be fitted for crowns.
The process for getting either a dental crown or bridge is the same and usually involves two appointments.
On the first visit, your dentist will prepare your tooth or teeth for the restoration. He or she will trim away the outer layer of the teeth that will get crowns and then scan them with our iTero digital scanner. This appointment will take about half an hour.
Traditionally, dentists design crowns and bridges based upon impressions, or moulds, that they take of the prepared teeth. At our Walsall dental practice, however, we use a digital scanner for speed, accuracy, and improved patient comfort.
You will receive a temporary restoration to protect your prepared teeth until your next visit. At this appointment, we will have your new crown or bridge ready for you. The dentist will check the fit and then cement it in place. This visit is also about half an hour.
These crowns contain no metal parts and blend in beautifully with your natural teeth.
Metal crowns with a porcelain covering bonded to them bring strength, durability, and beauty to your smile.
Gold is an excellent restorative material since it is gentle against tooth enamel.
